How can we help you?

Find step-by-step guides and answers to common questions about your memorial.

Beyond This Stone is a digital memorial service that lets you honor someone you love — or even create a legacy page for yourself. Each memorial has a unique QR code that can be placed on a headstone, grave marker, flower arrangement, or any keepsake item.

When someone scans the QR code with their phone camera, they go straight to the memorial page where they can view photos, read a biography, watch a slideshow, and leave a tribute message.

Your memorial lives online so friends and family anywhere in the world can visit, share memories, and remember together.

  1. 1.Go to app.beyondthisstone.com on your phone or computer.
  2. 2.Tap "Sign Up" and enter your name, email address, and a password to create your free account.
  3. 3.After signing in, you will be prompted to enter the activation code that came with your QR code.
  4. 4.You will be guided through a few simple steps: choose who the memorial is for, enter their name and dates, upload a photo, and write a short story about them.
  5. 5.When you finish, your memorial is live and ready to share with family and friends.

Yes — to set up and edit a memorial you need a free account. Creating one takes about two minutes and only requires your name, email address, and a password.

Visitors do not need an account at all. Anyone can leave a tribute just by entering their name and a message, and anyone can view a memorial that is set to "Public."

Beyond This Stone works on any modern device — smartphones, tablets, and computers. We recommend Google Chrome or Safari for the best experience.

The app works especially well on a smartphone for features like Augmented Reality (AR) and scanning QR codes. For editing the memorial and uploading lots of photos, a computer or tablet is often easier to use.

Your progress is saved automatically. Simply sign back in to your account at app.beyondthisstone.com and you will be returned to where you left off.

If that does not happen automatically, go to your Dashboard and look for a notice that says you have an unfinished setup in progress.

A memorial can be created for:

  • A loved one who has passed away
  • A beloved pet who has passed away
  • Yourself, as a living legacy page to share your life story

During setup, you will be asked who the memorial is for, and the app will adjust all of the wording to match your choice.

The first time you open a memorial you can edit, a guided tour starts automatically. It walks you through every feature on the page — the editing tools, the gallery, AI scenes, the biography, and more.

You can skip the tour at any time. To replay it, tap the gear icon in the top right corner of the memorial page, then tap "Replay walkthrough" in the Help section.

Look for the pencil icon in the top right corner of the memorial page. Tap or click it to turn on Edit Mode.

You will know Edit Mode is on because editing tools become visible on the page. Most things — photos, the biography, life events, and more — can only be changed when Edit Mode is turned on.

When you are done editing, tap the pencil icon again to turn Edit Mode off.

The pencil icon only appears if you are signed in to the account that owns the memorial, or an account that has been invited as an editor.

If you are signed in and still do not see the pencil icon, try refreshing the page. If the problem continues, please contact us and we will help you right away.

  1. 1.Make sure you are signed in.
  2. 2.Tap the pencil icon in the top right corner to turn on Edit Mode.
  3. 3.Tap directly on the round profile photo at the top of the page.
  4. 4.Choose a new photo from your device.

When you replace the profile photo, the old one is automatically removed. It does not take up any extra storage space.

  1. 1.Tap the pencil icon to turn on Edit Mode.
  2. 2.Tap the wide banner area at the very top of the page.
  3. 3.Select a photo from your device.

When you replace the banner photo, the old one is automatically removed. It does not use extra storage.

The banner can be a landscape scene, a favorite place, a family photo, or any image that feels meaningful.

Yes. Turn on Edit Mode by tapping the pencil icon. Then tap the name or the dates shown on the page. A small editing form will appear where you can make your changes. When you are done, tap Save.

Most changes save when you tap the Save button that appears after you make an edit. Some fields save automatically when you tap away from them.

If you are ever unsure whether something saved, look for a small confirmation message at the bottom of the screen. If you do not see one, tap Save one more time.

AI scenes use artificial intelligence to place the person's photo into a beautiful, generated image — for example, standing in a peaceful meadow, on a beach at sunset, or in a mountain landscape.

The result is a unique, artistic image that is added to the gallery and can be used in the slideshow. It is a meaningful way to create a special image even if you do not have a professional photo.

Each memorial you create comes with 5 free AI credits. Creating one scene uses 1 credit, and the cost is always shown on the button before you generate it — so you never spend a credit by surprise.

When your credits run low, you can buy more right where you create scenes. Look for the "Buy More Credits" option (for example, $1.99 for 10 credits).

AI credits are used the moment a scene is generated, even if you are not happy with the result. Credits cannot be refunded under any circumstances.

We strongly recommend reading the description of each scene carefully before you create it. If you want something very specific, use the custom scene option to describe exactly what you want in your own words.

Yes. In the AI section, there is an option to write a custom description in your own words. For example, you could type: "standing at the edge of a lake surrounded by autumn trees at golden hour."

The AI will do its best to match your description. Writing a detailed, specific description gives the best results. Credits are still used for custom scenes, and results can vary.

  1. 1.Turn on Edit Mode by tapping the pencil icon.
  2. 2.Go to the Gallery tab.
  3. 3.Find the AI section (look for the sparkle icon).
  4. 4.Choose a preset scene from the list, or select "Custom" to write your own description.
  5. 5.You will see exactly how many credits the scene will use before you confirm.
  6. 6.Tap "Create" to generate the scene.
  7. 7.The new image will appear in your gallery when it is ready.

Yes. In the AI section (on the Gallery tab while in Edit Mode), when your credits run low you will see a "Buy More Credits" button. Follow the steps to purchase more — for example, $1.99 for 10 credits.

Credits are non-refundable once purchased and cannot be transferred between memorials.

Augmented Reality (AR) lets you hold up your phone camera and see a photo of your loved one appear in the room around you — as if they were standing right there. It gently lifts the person out of the photo so you can place them in any room, at a family gathering, or at a meaningful location.

It is a deeply personal way to feel their presence.

  1. 1.Open the memorial page on your smartphone (AR works on phones, not computers).
  2. 2.Turn on Edit Mode by tapping the pencil icon.
  3. 3.Go to the Gallery tab.
  4. 4.Find the AR section (look for the cube icon).
  5. 5.Choose the photo you want to use.
  6. 6.Tap the AR button and allow the app to use your camera when prompted.
  7. 7.Slowly move your phone around the room until a flat surface is detected.
  8. 8.Tap where you want the photo to appear.

For the best experience, use a well-lit room and a clear, high-quality photo.

AR works on most modern smartphones. For iPhones, you need iPhone 6s or newer. For Android phones, most devices from the past five years will work.

When you tap the AR button, the app will let you know if your device is compatible. Make sure to allow camera access when the app asks for permission.

Try these steps:

  1. 1.Make sure you are using a smartphone, not a tablet or computer.
  2. 2.Allow camera permissions — go to your phone's settings, find the browser, and make sure camera access is turned on.
  3. 3.Make sure you are in a well-lit area, as dark rooms make it harder to detect surfaces.
  4. 4.Try reloading the page and trying again.

If AR is still not working, please contact us and we will help.

  1. 1.Sign in and open the memorial page.
  2. 2.Tap the pencil icon in the top right to turn on Edit Mode.
  3. 3.Tap the "About" tab.
  4. 4.Find the Biography section and tap on the text area.
  5. 5.Type their story — who they were, what they loved, what made them special, and what they meant to those around them.
  6. 6.When you are done, tap Save.

There is no right or wrong way to write a biography. Even a few sentences is meaningful.

The Life Timeline section is a timeline of the most important moments in someone's life — things like where they were born, where they grew up, when they graduated, when they got married, when they had children, and other meaningful milestones.

Each entry can include a date, a short description, and a linked photo from the gallery. Together, they create a beautiful record of a life well lived.

  1. 1.Turn on Edit Mode by tapping the pencil icon.
  2. 2.Tap the "About" tab.
  3. 3.Scroll down to the "Life Timeline" section.
  4. 4.Tap "Add Event" or the plus (+) button.
  5. 5.Enter the date, a short title (like "Born in Chicago, Illinois"), and an optional description.
  6. 6.Optionally, link a photo from the gallery.
  7. 7.Tap Save.

Events are sorted by date automatically.

Yes. Turn on Edit Mode, go to the About tab, and scroll to the Life Timeline section. Tap on any event to edit it. To delete it, open the event and look for the delete option.

Deleted events cannot be recovered.

Yes. When adding or editing a life event, you will see an option to link a photo from the memorial's gallery. You need to upload the photo to the gallery first, and then you can attach it to the event.

This is a wonderful way to connect a specific photo to a milestone, like a wedding photo linked to the wedding event.

Tributes are heartfelt messages that family and friends leave on the memorial page to share a memory, express their love, or say goodbye. They are similar to condolence messages in a traditional guestbook.

Tributes appear on the Tributes tab and can be read by anyone who visits the memorial.

  1. 1.The visitor opens the memorial page.
  2. 2.They tap the "Tributes" tab.
  3. 3.Next to "Share a memory," they tap the "Write" button.
  4. 4.They enter their first and last name, an optional email, and their message.
  5. 5.They tap "Submit Tribute."

No account or sign-in is needed to leave a tribute — anyone can share a memory in under a minute.

Yes. As long as tribute approval is turned on — which it is by default — you will receive an email each time a visitor leaves a tribute that is waiting for your approval. Make sure the email address on your account is correct so you do not miss any.

If you turn tribute approval off, tributes post right away and no approval email is sent.

By default, no — new tributes from visitors wait for your approval before they appear on the page. This gives you a chance to review each message first.

If you would rather have tributes appear instantly, you can turn off "Require tribute approval" in Settings. Tributes left by you or other editors are always posted right away.

Tribute approval is turned on by default. To change it:

  1. 1.Tap the gear icon in the top right corner of the memorial page to open Settings.
  2. 2.Find the "Visibility & Features" section.
  3. 3.Turn the "Require tribute approval" switch on or off.

Your choice saves automatically. When it is on, new tributes wait in a queue for your approval before they appear, and you receive an email when one is waiting for your review.

When tribute moderation is on and a tribute is waiting, you will receive an email with approve and reject buttons. You can also manage pending tributes directly on the memorial page.

  1. 1.Turn on Edit Mode (tap the pencil icon).
  2. 2.Go to the Tributes tab.
  3. 3.Pending tributes will show with Approve and Reject options.
  1. 1.Turn on Edit Mode by tapping the pencil icon.
  2. 2.Go to the Tributes tab.
  3. 3.Find the tribute you want to remove.
  4. 4.Tap the options button (three dots) next to it and choose "Delete."

Deleted tributes cannot be recovered.

Tap the Share button on the memorial page (look for the upward-arrow share icon).

On a phone, this opens your device's share menu, where you can send the memorial's link by text message, email, or social media. On a computer, the link is copied to your clipboard so you can paste it wherever you like.

Anyone with the link can visit the memorial — no account is required to view it (unless you have set it to Private).

  1. 1.Open the memorial page and tap the gear icon to open Settings.
  2. 2.Find the "Access" or "Invite Editors" section.
  3. 3.Enter the email address of the person you want to invite.
  4. 4.Tap "Send Invite."

They will receive an email with a link. When they click it and sign in (or create a free account), they will have editor access to the memorial.

An invited editor can do almost everything the owner can: upload photos, write the biography, add life events, create AI scenes, and moderate tributes.

An editor cannot delete the memorial, remove the owner's access, or transfer ownership of the memorial.

Yes. Open Settings by tapping the gear icon, find the Access section, and tap the remove button next to the person's name. Their access will be removed immediately.

Yes. Open Settings (tap the gear icon) and find the Privacy section. You can change the memorial to "Private," which means only people you have invited can view it.

When set to Public, anyone with the link or QR code can view the memorial.

Tap the gear icon in the top right corner of the memorial page. Settings is always visible — you do not need to be in Edit Mode to open it.

The gear icon is available to the owner and any invited editors.

In Settings you can:

  • Edit the basic information — name, nickname, dates, and location
  • Change the memorial's privacy (Public or Private)
  • Turn tribute approval on or off
  • Show or hide photo captions in the gallery
  • Show or hide your featured AR photo
  • Invite editors and manage who has access
  • Replay the guided walkthrough tour

Storage upgrades, the warranty, and your QR code download are handled from your Dashboard instead — open the memorial there and tap "Manage Plan."

Tap the gear icon to open Settings, scroll down to the "Help" section, and tap "Replay walkthrough." The guided tour will start from the beginning and walk you through every feature on the page.

You can skip the tour at any time or let it run all the way through.

Storage upgrades are handled from your Dashboard, not the memorial's Settings page.

  1. 1.Go to your Dashboard.
  2. 2.Find the memorial and tap "Manage Plan."
  3. 3.Choose a storage upgrade and follow the steps to complete the purchase.

Storage upgrades are added immediately after purchase. All storage upgrades are final sale.

The QR code is the physical bridge between a memorial marker and the digital memorial page. When someone points their smartphone camera at the code, it instantly opens the memorial in their web browser.

You can place the QR code on a headstone or grave marker, a memorial bench, a flower arrangement, thank-you cards, or any keepsake item you choose.

Your QR code came with your Beyond This Stone purchase — it may be on a sticker, card, or plaque depending on what you ordered. Simply apply the sticker to the surface of your choice (such as a headstone), or display the card or plaque wherever feels right.

You can also download a digital version of your QR code from your Dashboard — open the memorial and tap "Manage Plan," where a download option is available. This lets you print it yourself or send it to a monument company.

Their smartphone camera will recognize the code and automatically open the memorial page in a web browser. No special app needs to be downloaded. Any modern smartphone — iPhone or Android — can scan it using just the built-in camera.

Try these steps:

  1. 1.Make sure the camera is focused clearly on the code (hold the phone steady and let it focus).
  2. 2.Make sure the QR code is not damaged, scratched, or covered.
  3. 3.Try scanning in good lighting — avoid very dark conditions.
  4. 4.Hold the phone a comfortable distance away (about 6 to 12 inches).
  5. 5.If scanning with an Android phone, you may need to open the camera app and tap the QR code icon.

If the code still does not work, please contact us right away and we will help you get it resolved.

Yes. Go to your Dashboard, open the memorial, and tap "Manage Plan." There you will find an option to download a high-quality image of your QR code to print or share.

All sales are final. Because QR codes are personalized and digital memorials are activated immediately upon purchase, we do not accept returns or offer refunds on any items.

Please review your order carefully before completing your purchase. If you have questions before buying, please contact us — we are happy to help.

No. AI credits are non-refundable once purchased or used. Credits are consumed the moment a scene is generated, regardless of whether you like the result.

We recommend reading the scene description and checking the credit cost carefully before creating a scene. You can also use the custom description option to describe exactly what you want, which may give you a better result.

The warranty provides protection for your physical QR code sticker or plaque against damage, fading, or manufacturing defects.

If your QR code becomes unreadable due to normal wear or a defect — not from intentional damage or improper installation — we will replace it at no extra charge.

The warranty must be purchased within 30 days of activating your memorial.

  1. 1.Go to your Dashboard.
  2. 2.Find the memorial and tap "Manage Plan."
  3. 3.Find the warranty option and follow the on-screen steps to complete the purchase.

After 30 days from activation, the warranty option is no longer available.

Unfortunately, the warranty must be purchased within 30 days of activating your memorial. Once that window closes, it cannot be added.

If you have a special situation or questions about this, please contact us at the link at the bottom of this page and we will do our best to help.

Please contact us if you need to transfer ownership of a memorial or QR code. We handle these requests on a case-by-case basis and will do our best to accommodate you.

  1. 1.Sign in to your account.
  2. 2.Tap "Dashboard" in the navigation.
  3. 3.Tap "Account."
  4. 4.On the Account page you can update your name and profile photo.

Your email address cannot be changed from this page — please contact us if you need to update it. To set a new password, use the "Forgot password?" link on the sign-in page, which emails you a secure link to choose a new one.

  1. 1.Go to app.beyondthisstone.com and tap "Sign In."
  2. 2.Tap the "Forgot password?" link below the password field.
  3. 3.Enter your email address and tap "Send Reset Email."
  4. 4.Check your email inbox for a password reset message. If you do not see it within a few minutes, check your spam or junk folder.
  5. 5.Click the link in the email and follow the steps to create a new password.

Yes. On the sign-in page, tap the "Continue with Google" button. You will be taken to Google to confirm, and then brought right back to your account. This is often the easiest option if you are already signed in to a Google account on your device.

First, check your spam or junk mail folder — our emails sometimes end up there.

If you find our emails in spam, mark them as "Not Spam" so future emails reach your inbox.

You can also check that the email address on your account is correct from the Account page in your Dashboard. If it is wrong, contact us and we will update it for you.

If you still are not receiving emails, please contact us and we will investigate.

You can delete your own account at any time:

  1. 1.Sign in and go to your Dashboard.
  2. 2.Tap "Account."
  3. 3.Scroll to the "Account Deletion" section and tap "Delete Account."
  4. 4.Confirm, then type DELETE to permanently remove your account.

Please be aware that deleting your account also permanently deletes all memorials associated with it, along with all photos, tributes, and content. This cannot be undone, so if you are unsure, contact us first and we will be glad to help.

Go to your Dashboard (tap "Dashboard" in the navigation). All memorials you own or have been invited to edit will be listed there. You can open, manage, and share each one from this page.

Memorials you have saved (bookmarked) will also appear in a separate section of your Dashboard.
